Matthew Newman: Salesman Extraordinaire

My career spans retail, operations, and technology, with a focus on sales, growth, strategy, and translating complexity into results. What follows is a glimpse into the professional work that shaped how I think and operate.

Senior Manager, Client Development

Avery Dennison

I am currently happily employed by Avery Dennison, a leading material sciences manufacturer. I work in Client Development for Vestcom, one of their subsidiaries focused on bringing innovation to the retail shelf edge. In short: I sell price tags to grocery stores.

In this role, I own full P&L responsibility for a $15M+ territory, leading enterprise sales, account management, and new business development for regional grocery chains across the U.S. I’ve helped transform an underperforming market into a growth engine through disciplined prospecting, cross-functional collaboration, and executive-level relationship building, consistently exceeding new business targets year over year. Alongside sales leadership, I partner closely with product and client experience teams to bring new shelf-edge technologies to market — including SaaS-based platforms spanning print, electronic shelf labels, RFID, and in-store media — while structuring long-term, multi-year agreements that support sustainable growth for both clients and the business.

Senior Account Manager

Amoobi

At Amoobi, a retail technology startup specializing in spatial recognition and in-store analytics, I served as the U.S. team lead and strategic account manager, working directly with the CEO to grow the company’s enterprise business. I managed the full client lifecycle for global retail and QSR brands including Walmart, Starbucks, Diageo, Procter & Gamble, and Aramark, overseeing more than $300K in recurring revenue with a 100% renewal rate and significant account expansion. In addition to leading sales development and executive-level engagements with Fortune 100 clients, I partnered closely with product and engineering teams to deliver custom analytics and insights that helped clients improve in-store performance and drive measurable sales growth.

Ecommerce Merchandising Manager

Tourneau | Bucherer USA

At Tourneau, the country’s largest multi-brand luxury watch retailer, I reported directly to the CMO and served as the company’s sole Ecommerce Merchandising Manager. I owned a $15M+ online P&L spanning marquee brands such as Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Cartier, and led promotional strategy across both ecommerce and brick-and-mortar channels. Through strategic merchandising, sales planning, and data-driven marketing execution, I helped drive a 19% year-over-year increase in total ecommerce revenue in 2020 while increasing promotional revenue by 28% without sacrificing margin, regularly presenting performance insights to the executive team.

Merchant

Walmart

At Walmart, I built the foundation of my retail and sales career, beginning an Associate Merchant and earning a promotion to full Merchant within a year. Across multiple categories, I owned end-to-end P&L responsibility totaling more than $8M, overseeing everything from vendor strategy and financial planning to merchandising, marketing, and sales execution. I partnered closely with major national brands to drive double-digit topline growth, led high-stakes holiday programs with strong sell-through and profitability, and consistently exceeded category plans through data-driven decision-making and disciplined retail execution.
